Right now in my Professional development committee we set up the priorities of the school and the corporation. We find out that our corporation is pushing for UDL big time. So our main task is for us to find the way of helping all our colleagues to learn how to use it and see it as a helpful tool to teach not another requisite to follow. So far the teachers we had invited to help us in giving these mini workshops had said yes. Now our debate is in finding a good time to start teaching our colleagues. Right now our school corporation does not have money to pay extra time for teachers so we have to design a schedule in the teachers’ schedule. This is quiet a task because we really want to integrate all the teachers. Right now one of the possibilities we have is to use their departmental meetings to go over some UDL questions and then start helping them with what ever they are in need to learn.
My action plan seems working fine. I already get in to two new web pages that Lynnette recommended me ePal and edutopia.org.and I am playing around with them. I hope they could help me to reach my goal of a global project for my class.
So far I am learning how to use the wikis even thought I use them in one of my classes since I have a very strong filter in my school I never use it. Another thing that I am learning is how to play with the technology that I have and not think that I am in the middle of no where. I think that if we see around our classrooms and our students we are going to find so many technological artifacts that we can use to help them learn.
One big question I have now is can someone give me a Wiki help 101?

Raquel,
ReplyDeleteWhat questions do you have about wiki's? I know I felt unsure about adding or creating a wiki when I started last year, but now that I know the basics, I am feeling much more confident. There are different sites that host wiki's and they each have their own special features, so you may want to look for a help page on the site or sometimes there will be a short video to show you how to use the features.
I have used wikispaces before and know some of the features for that site. There is an editing button you have to click on to be able to add text, pictures, videos, or other media and documents. There are discussion boards located at the top of each page for members to talk with each other. Let me know if you need help with this specific program and I will see if I have some answers for you!
Raquel,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the success you are having in getting the needed push to teach your colleagues on technology integration. Do not be discouraged about the need to find the time. Departmental meeting slots may not offer the needed time totally, but the effective use of all time given will soon mount to success.
You and I have the same thoughts about implementing the wiki. Two of the technology tools that I want to become more efficient in using are the blog and the wiki. Using the exposure that I get from this class to both, hopefully, will increase my skills to use them and make me more and more efficient. As I read the previous comment, I reflected on the wiki that we are currently assigned to, and I visualized all that was given as advice.
Good luck to both of us as we successfully integrate technology into our curriculums.
Raquel,
ReplyDeleteAs Katherine said there are many sites that host wikis. She is using wikispaces and I am using wetpaint. All you have to do is google start wiki and different sites will come up for you to choose from. I like wetpaint because you can attach pages to other pages. If you go to updates it allows you to see exactly who posted what and that is a nice feature. My home email is ruth61@gmail.com Feel free to email me if you want and I can give you my number to walk you through the process online.
Next week we hit the ground on the project for this course. I am excited to see exactly how helpful the wiki will be. I know I am going to have them post a reflection at the end of every period. If I think they are going to do that on their own I would most likely be wrong. That is something I learned pretty quickly. I have to set aside time in class for them to utilize the wiki. If you have some time this weekend just start a wiki. It takes maybe 10 minutes to set up and you will begin to use your imagination as to how it could be helpful with your instruction.
