Reflection

During these eight weeks I had been learning how to fully integrate technology into my English as a Second Language class. I could create an inquiry unit that will allow me and my students to interact more with technology and learn English at the same time. Right now they had learned how to write a letter, how to proof read it and to make an audio file with the audacity program.

One of the eye openers I had while working on this part of my unit is that it took me less time to teach some grammar usage as subject verb agreement and punctuation that usually takes me at least a couple of months for my students to fully understand this balance. I noticed that the use of the audacity helped me to complement my lesson about punctuation. Since punctuation is the one that helps with the correct intonation of a word, this activity of creating an audio file of their letter was a risk free reading and listening promoter. I noticed the use of technology in my classroom provides a safer environment for them and also promotes the constant practice of the language. My students enjoyed recording their voices and listening to each other’s soundtracks.

Everything that I learned in this class will definitely help me to create a more welcoming environment in my classroom. My students will not be afraid of making speaking or writing mistakes because they will be the first ones on looking and listening to what ever they are working on. The constant interaction with one another and with the technology promotes their confidence and language development. One of the things that I would like to have more knowledge about are the podcasts. I started what a Podcast is whit the use of the audacity program. If I learn more about this and I apply it in class, my students will be exciting to be able to post some of their files on the web and share them with the outside world. I think that immediate step I need to take to reach this goal is to talk to my Technology facilitator and see if it’s possible for my students to post their audio files.
